good back-up method October 25, 2008 Mary (portland, OR) I would never rely on this as my only form of birth control (or recommend it to anyone who doesn't know for sure that her partner is STD free), but it's a nice back-up method if you and your partner don't want to put the condom on right away... I like that you can put it in place well in advance (up to 3 hours), no hormones, no prescription. It's not at all messy and there's nothing you have to remember to take out later. My partner says he can't feel or taste it. I suppose inserting the film might be a little difficult if you're not very comfortable with your own anatomy, but if you've ever used a non-applicator tampon you should be fine -- although I do think some sort of VCF applicator would be a nice touch.
Best contraceptive I have ever tried! June 18, 2008 Michelle (Quitman, Texas) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have been using these for over two years and have to say that they work great. I often recommend them to my female friends who don't want to get pregnant and don't want to use condoms. (Although, I do remind them that condoms are best because they protect against STDs - these films don't.) VCF is easy to use and more affordable than going to the doctor for prescription birth control. The only drawback my partner sees is having to wait 15 minutes for it to dissolve. But I enjoy the guaranteed 15 minutes of kiss & cuddle time :-)
Not that hard to use June 10, 2008 Shauna Shauna (So-Cal, USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I find these MUCH easier and cleaner than foams or jellies. I have been using these for about a year and only had a couple get stuck to my finger. As was said in an earlier comment it's best to fold these in half twice. Just make sure you're fast and there's no problems. So far they have been an effective contraceptive, but I'm also paranoid so we use condoms too.
Have to get the hang of it May 10, 2008 Olivia (Pennsylvania, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had this problem at first too. The trick is to fold it in half twice...so it's about a 1/4 the size of the original. Then, insert it really fast and remove your finger. If you take too long it does stick. And if you try and put it in whole, without folding it, it surely will stick. After you get the hang of it, it's not too bad. I like this product because you don't have to remove it like the today sponge. Also, you don't have to REMEMBER to remove it.
This review is about ease-of-use only....... May 10, 2008 avidreader251 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered a free sample of these to try out before using with my boyfriend to see how easy they would be to use, and to see if I would have any negative reactions to them. I got 3 sample sheets in the mail, in tear-away single packs to be able to use one at a time. I made sure my hands were clean and very dry, and proceeded to open up the first one. I was surprised at how thin these are; thinner than a fruit roll-up even, but thick and flexible enough to work with. The instructional insert that came with the sample says to fold the product in half and then bend it over your middle finger so that its in half again, then insert your middle finger high into the vagina, very quickly. So here I am, thinking that it would go in easier if I used my index finger instead of my middle finger. It didn't, lol. It got stuck on my finger once I got it in there, and got mushy and I had to rinse it off of my finger in the sink. But, that didn't deter me. I opened the second one and followed the instructions EXACTLY. It went in perfectly. I was even able to stick my wet finger back up in there a couple of quick times, without it sticking, just to be sure I got it on the cervical opening. I then walked around the house doing normal activities to give it time to dissolve thoroughly, and check for "side effects". I didn't feel a thing. About 20 minutes later, I decided to insert my final sample 'cause it says to use a new film for each sex act, and also to test the sensitivity and see if there would be any leakage. A few minutes after inserting the second film I did start to feel a faint itch, but nothing I couldn't handle, and a few minutes after that (maybe 10) I felt nothing at all. And there was no leakage. My overall opinion of these is very good in terms of "usability". Can't wait to get the box I ordered and use them with my boyfriend to get his opinion and see if we will be adding these to our routine. I also like that they would be easy to carry with you because the packaging is so small; foams, jellies, and the applicators that go with them can be a hassle sometimes. I wish I could comment on the product's effectiveness as a contraceptive.
